How pilot pricing works
Doors and drawer fronts each count as one. Your quote is based on your actual kitchen, so it also includes any extras such as exposed side panels, an island, cabinet interiors, or stripping and extra cleaning when needed. Send photos and we'll count for you.
What pilot clients agree to
In exchange for the pilot rate, you agree in writing before we start that we may take before and after photos and short video on Day 1 and Day 5. We may use them on retrodern.com, Google, Nextdoor, and Facebook. If you love the result, we'll ask for a Google review after the final walkthrough. We know what we are doing; we are experts at this kind of finish work. Kitchen cabinets are new for us in public, not new as a craft, so you are not getting a newbie.

Your quote, built from your whole kitchen. Every quote is built from your doors, drawer fronts, exposed side panels, island, and extras, not by square feet. Doors and drawer fronts are priced per piece, $120 each at the pilot rate (regularly $150). Then we add any extras your kitchen needs, like exposed side panels, an island, cabinet interiors, or stripping. Send us photos and your counts, and we will send a same-day quote.

Who we are ▾
Retrodern is a Longwood-based team of cabinet and furniture painting specialists, and our spray finish does not come from a handful of furniture pieces.
It comes from a decade in high-end auto body work, spraying cars to a flawless finish, before we brought that same craft home to furniture and now to kitchen cabinets.
We know what we are doing; we are experts at this kind of finish work. Kitchen cabinets are new for us in public, not new as a craft, so you are not getting a newbie.
We handle every step, from detailed preparation and masking to spraying and final installation. We paint cabinets only, including industrial coatings. We do not stain cabinets and we do not reface or replace them.

Our 7-step process, 5 days ▾
Most cabinet refinishing projects are completed in 3 to 5 days. Larger kitchens or projects may take longer. This is our 5-day process, Monday to Friday for most kitchens.
Remove
Doors and drawer fronts removed, labeled, hardware bagged by location, and taken to our Longwood shop to spray. Hinges removed and labeled too.
Protect
Countertops, floors, appliances, walls, and cabinet openings covered and protected. Frames stay in your home and are sprayed on site.
Clean
All surfaces thoroughly cleaned and degreased to remove cooking grease, hand oils, and buildup that could prevent adhesion.
Repair and sand
Minor imperfections and unwanted hardware holes filled when included in the project. Every surface scuff-sanded so the primer can grip.
Prime
B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer sprayed on, then lightly sanded. On slick or previously finished surfaces we use INSL-X Stix bonding primer instead. Another round of filler may be required here, as well as a second coat of primer.
Spray the finish
Two (three when necessary) sprayed finish coats in your color. Doors and drawer fronts sprayed in our shop for a smooth factory-style finish. Frames finished on site.
Reinstall and inspect
Doors and drawer fronts brought back from our shop, reinstalled, hinges adjusted, touchups completed, and the entire project inspected with you drawer by drawer.
What happens, and when: the full timeline ▾
Exact timing and order may vary, and some stages may take place on the same day. You will receive a detailed schedule before your project begins. In some cases, our first visit is only to remove and pick up the doors and drawer fronts.
- Initial visit: door and drawer removal.
- Onsite preparation: frames cleaned, sanded, masked, and protected. Kitchen access may be limited during this stage.
- Onsite spraying: frames professionally sprayed on site. Protective materials are removed and the area is cleaned so you can access your kitchen again.
- Shop refinishing: doors and drawer fronts prepared and professionally sprayed at our shop in Longwood.
- Final installation: doors and drawer fronts reinstalled, necessary touchups, and final inspection.
Paint needs time to cure fully, so we will give you simple care steps for the first weeks.
What goes on your cabinets: primer and topcoat ▾
Primer: B-I-N Shellac-Based
Seals the surface and helps block stains, wood tannins, and discoloration from bleeding through the finish. On slick or previously finished surfaces, we sometimes use INSL-X Stix bonding primer instead, and we will tell you which primer your kitchen is getting in your quote.
Topcoat: Sherwin-Williams Gallery Series
Our finish is Sherwin-Williams Gallery Series, and nothing else. This professional waterborne coating is sprayed to create a smooth, durable finish designed for cabinets and other frequently used surfaces. We do not offer 2K coatings or any other topcoat.
Cabinet interiors are not included in standard pricing but may be added to your quote. Painted cabinet interiors may show normal wear sooner than exterior surfaces because of frequent contact with dishes, cookware, and other stored items.
Cabinet condition, extra cabinets, color, and hardware ▾
Cabinet condition: tell us if your cabinets are basic wood stained finish; painted, with paint worn naturally and NOT easily scratched off; painted with latex paint and EASILY scratched off (will require stripping and sanding for an additional fee); 20 years or older and gummy with grease residue in areas (requires an extra cleaning fee); or other.
Additional cabinets: master bathroom, bathroom, laundry room, wall unit, or other cabinets can be added to your quote. Pictures are required for additional cabinets.
Paint color: your paint color must be chosen from the Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore paint collections. Choose your color yourself, or for a $50 consultation fee we will come to the project site and provide color swatches.
Hardware: our quote is for labor only; you provide the hardware. Keep your current hardware or same hole placement, or add/replace hardware that requires new hole placement at $5 per piece, with you supplying the hardware on the first day of the project.
Booking, payment, and warranty ▾
Booking and payment: a booking deposit of $100 to $300 is required to reserve your project date. This deposit is applied toward your total project price. The remaining balance is divided into two payments. 50% is due on the first day of the project. The final 50% is due when the project is completed. Projects over $10,000 may require a customized installment schedule. All payment details will be included in your estimate and contract before booking.
One-year workmanship warranty: Retrodern cabinet painting projects include a one-year workmanship warranty. Complete warranty coverage, care instructions, and exclusions are provided in your contract. Normal wear and tear, or damage caused by impacts, moisture, harsh cleaning products, or improper care, is not considered a workmanship issue.

Cabinet painting or refinishing specialists: cabinet painting is not an occasional add-on for us. It is our craft, built on a decade of high-end auto body spraying, then many custom refinished furniture pieces sold over the years, and now kitchen cabinets.
